Sekeping Kong Heng Experience

I had a really tiring yet fun trip to Perak last weekend.
The main purpose was actually for a site visit in Taiping. Since it was just me alone, I decided to tagged my best friends along. and just bear with my long post, flooded with pictures because it was my first ever trip to Ipoh!

From KL, I drove to Kuala Kangsar, made a pit stop at the famous Kedai Kopi Yut Loy, famous with its pau ayam and other delicacies. Since I was full due to heavy lunch I had earlier, I only ordered Pau Kacang and Ayam, and trust me, those were selling very fast! It's must go place if you're happen to pass by Kuala Kangsar area.

We arrived Taiping later the evening and just chilling at the hotel room before decided to take an evening stroll at the Taiping Lake. It was a great scenery to be waken up to, with the hill view, overseeing our hotel. After done with my site visit in Taiping on Sunday, we rush to Ipoh, and the journey of food hunting begun....

1) Check-ed in at Sekeping Kong Heng.

Crossing my 3rd Sekeping Retreats from my checklist! 3 more Sekeping Retreats to go!

The Reception area. looks like an abandoned building. friends keep on telling me the place is haunted to scare me off.

The see-through toilet in our room. No worries, there are curtains to cover it up if you're shy.

Room for two, with extra bed, RM250/night.

The lounge area, where we spend our night watching movies and planning for our next trip to Hong Kong next month.

Out of all sections, this caught my attention. I love the bricks-made bookshelves, with tonnes of book!

2) The food galore!
I was amazed because there's a Plan B two steps away from Sekeping Kong Heng. We went to Plan B to tapau our dinner, in our pajamas.

And we had our coffee break and breakfast on the next day at the famous quirky cafe, located behind Sekeping Kong Heng. I just love its quirkiness, using old-school stuffs as their decor. Old typewriter, old fan, old wooden table, u just name it.

What we had for coffee break. Bread butter pudding, latte, caramel doughnut. They serve Churros as well, but I only happened to realize a while after, after my tummy is full.

The mural painting at dine area. and growing trees. Just the way I like it.

 |The famous Monroe's painting. located outside of the cafe, but a tad hidden in between shop lots.|

Moi, trying to do some Marilyn Monroe's pose.

On the next day, after checking out we had a quick lunch at Ipoh's Nasi Ganja Yong Suan.
Yong Suan Coffee Shop, just 1.5km away from Sekeping Kong Heng

Long queue, just to get Nasi Ganja. and no, they don't put drugs in it.

After check out from Sekeping Kong Heng, we gave two more places a go.
1st, we made a quick stop at Kellie Castle in Batu Gajah, a historical building built by a Scottish planter, called William Kellie Smith from a little town in Scotland. and according to the locals, the castle is haunted. Not sure how true it is. More on Kellie Castle, read here: weehingthong.wordpress.com/2013/07/31/kellies-castle/

and lastly, another quick stop at Yik Mun Pau, Tanjung Malim Perak. Just 45 minutes away from KL. I have to admit that paus in Yut Loy taste better. I tapau-ed 4 packs of frozen paus for Farhaan, then the kakak gave me a strange look, she must thought I'll be walloping all by myself... sigh.

It was a great trip after all, to be able to discover amazing places in my country, not to mention about the food hunting part.
I'm proud to be a Malaysian.
